Thank you for shopping at This Country Australia.
Purchasing products here supports local creatives and allows craft and design to thrive in Australia.
All the proceeds from the sale of our woven baskets and mats, and the Indij Design earrings go directly to the makers. We purchase directly from emerging artists and craftspeople, and provide another platform for their work, freeing them up to create. It means that some of our makers don't need to sell at the markets every weekend. Some weekends they can stay home and make beautiful things instead.
Purchasing products here supports worthwhile causes.
The beautiful Bilum bags we have in stock are purchased through a not-for-profit organisation that has built a safe haven for women in Papua New Guinea called The Blue Haus. Here, the women and their children are able to find refuge and a marketplace for their Bilums, enabling them to earn some money. It offers them a step out and a step up.
Proceeds from the gorgeous May Gibbs range of children's linen go towards the May Gibbs foundation. May Gibbs left a lasting legacy to thousands of children and adults with disability. Upon her death in 1969, May Gibbs left the copyright of all her works jointly to Northcott and the Cerebral Palsy Alliance. The generosity of May Gibbs will continue to assist the works of these charitable organisations through the royalties on sales of May Gibbs books and associated products.
When the wool prices crashed back in 1992, Tambo Teddies were born to support the wool industry and create employment in the small town of Tambo. The company has grown and won Queensland Multicultural Business award for 2019. These days our Tambo koalas could be made at either their site in Tambo or their second site in Toowoomba, providing employment for newly arrived refugees. Well done Tambo Teddies!
Your purchase is thoughtful and goes beyond the pleasure you give to the recipient.
Don't get me wrong, we aren't angels. This is a for-profit business. Sprinkled in between the causes close to our heart are products that provide the spark to keep us buoyant.
To quote Picasso: "The meaning of life is to find your gift, the purpose is to give it away." Taking a liberty here..... is Picasso encouraging you to find a wonderful gift and give it to someone you care about?
